LISD offers flu vaccines for students

The Laredo Independent School District is offering flu vaccines at no cost for eligible LISD students. The flu vaccine clinics are scheduled to begin next week at the following schools Santo Nino, Kawas, Gallego, Santa Maria, Zachry, and Ligarde Elementary Schools and Martin High School.  LISD anticipates scheduling additional flu shot clinics based on vaccine availability.

Elementary school students will have their flu vaccines scheduled at their schools. Parents/guardians must accompany pre-k to kinder on the day of the scheduled vaccine. Students in first grade to 12thgrade must submit a signed parent pre-consent with their school nurse on designated consent dates.

“LISD encourages all parents to make sure their children get their flu shot this year,” said LISD Health Services Director Grace Lopez. “Each year many children get sick with the seasonal influenza flu. Children with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease have a higher risk of getting the flu.”

Consult your child's doctor if you have questions about flu protection. Also check with your child's doctor if your child has any medical conditions or experienced a severe reaction to a previous flu vaccine.

Preventative Health Solutions will be available at all campuses to provide vaccines for those students that do not qualify for the TVFC (Texas Vaccine for Children) Vaccine.
